Peer Support Workers

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of people experiencing homelessness? Do you have lived experience of homelessness and want to use your journey to support others? Join us at Turning Tides as a Peer Support Worker and be part of a dynamic team dedicated to empowering vulnerable individuals.

About the Role

As a Peer Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, drawing on your lived experience to connect with and inspire others. You will provide compassionate, non-judgemental support, and advocate for those who need help accessing essential services such as accommodation, healthcare, and food.

This role also includes mentorship responsibilities. You will guide trainees participating in our peer support training programme, helping them develop the skills and confidence needed to support people in crisis.

Peer support plays a vital role in breaking down barriers and fostering strong therapeutic relationships based on trust and shared experiences. You will work closely with our Wellbeing Liaison Team and external services to help clients navigate their recovery journey.

About You

You are someone who has experienced homelessness firsthand and understands the challenges, vulnerabilities, and complexities faced by those going through similar experiences. Your personal journey gives you a unique ability to connect with and inspire others who are struggling.

Empathy, compassion, and non-judgmental support are central to how you engage with people. You believe in the power of peer support and understand how shared experiences can break down barriers and build trust. You are passionate about empowering individuals to make positive changes in their lives and are ready to walk alongside them on their journey to recovery.

As a strong communicator, you are able to engage with clients, colleagues, and external partners effectively. You’re a team player who thrives in a collaborative environment, and you are eager to mentor others, guiding them as they develop the skills to offer effective peer support.

You are comfortable working in a fast-paced and sometimes challenging environment, using your lived experience to build therapeutic relationships while remaining grounded and resilient. Flexibility is key for you – you’re willing to work evenings, weekends, or holidays if needed, to provide support when it’s most needed.

Whether advocating for someone, de-escalating a conflict, or helping a trainee grow in confidence, you’re always focused on promoting dignity, respect, and recovery. If you’re looking for a role where you can make a real difference, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
